This short film may not feature internationally recognized A-list movie stars, but with the help of machine-learning AI algorithms, our actors may seem a bit familiar. A cautionary science fiction satire, Face Swap is arguably the first narrative film using the “deepfakes” process as a storytelling tool.

H’ilol, which means “seer” in the Mayan language of highland Mexico, is the Jury Grand Prize winner of the KODAK and ATLFS 2019 “100’ of film competition” hosted in Atlanta, GA. The project was shot entirely on one 100’ roll, only 3 minutes of 16mm color film.

Sounds of the Forest

Amber drives herself to a spot in the woods to enjoy a relaxing day in the forest. She arrives at the edge of the treeline, locks her car, and ventures into the woods. After taking in the sights, smells, and sounds of the forest, she returns to the parking lot to find that her car isn’t where she thought it was. Using her key fob, she tries to locate her car with the “dook dook” sound of the lock. This leads her back into the woods where she ultimately discovers that she, and her car, are not alone.
