Kelly McCorkendale

Kelly McCorkendale is a dog-lover, avid quilter, and occasional creative writer who loves the color orange and boycotts cable (except Game of Thrones because, well, what if winter is coming!?). After college, she realized poets weren’t in demand, so she shipped off to Madagascar with Peace Corps. Since then, she’s found a niche working on health systems in Africa but has a long-list of life tasks yet to be fulfilled--such as perform blackmail, learn a trade, and become a competitive eater. She has an MA in International Education, believes rice is the elixir of life, and, in high school, won the best supporting actress honor for the state of Missouri. She may also recite poetry (her first love) when imbibing in alcohol.

In Sync with Joey and Chris

Joey and Chris. Chris and Joey. They may have been two-fifths of a sugary boy band once worshipped by pre-pubescent girls (and some adults), but they’ve matured into a couple of dirty birds. If they were a bad drink on shameful night, they’d be rancid pinot noir—one you’d happily drink. They are willing to go anywhere for a laugh, and… Read more →

Father and Daughter: A Pond Family Reunion

Father and Daughter: A Pond Family Reunion

Like any respectable fake father/daughter duo, Arthur Darvill (Rory Williams) and Alex Kingston (River Song) showed up for their family reunion on Sunday at 2:30PM in the Marriott Atrium Ballroom wearing color-coordinated outfits that featured a light forest green. Kingston looked stunning in an elegant, flowy dress that only accentuated her class, while Darvill’s basic button up couldn’t dull his wicked… Read more →

Legends of Tomorrow? More Like Legends of Today

Raucous applause greeted the cast of Legends of Tomorrow Saturday in the Hilton Grand Ballroom Saturday evening. Almost more impressive, however, than the palpable fan-love was Falk Hentschel, Casper Crump, Ciara Renée, and Arthur Darvil’s mutual enthusiasm for each other. This is a cast with impeccable chemistry and comical rapport whose witty, manic banter—which focused on everything from porn to… Read more →

Puppetry of Labyrinth: 30th Anniversary

Brian Henson entered the stage on Saturday at 2:30PM in his favorite, multi-colored jeans (gifted by his 10-year-old daughter). The pants projected a rainbow all the way to the back of the Marriott Atrium Ballroom. It was a fitting wardrobe choice for talking about the wonderful, fantastical Labyrinth. The film—an indelible part of childhood for anyone under the age of… Read more →

Charlie Cox: Redux

Charlie Cox, in his second Dragon Con panel, which took place Saturday at 11:30AM in the Marriott, entered to loud cheers and instantly reaffirmed his nice-guy reputation by pouring the moderator a glass of water before picking up and absentmindedly fidgeting with a red and silver pen as he answered a slew of new (and a few recycled) questions. “So… Read more →

Fast Times with Judge Reinhold

Judge Reinhold, one the 1980s snarkiest funnymen, entered the Hyatt Centennial I Ballroom Friday afternoon to the sound of the audience singing the Beverly Hills Cop theme—that melodic, synth-y masterpiece for which he is forever associated. But Reinhold didn’t mind; great music enhances movies, and when he first heard Glenn Fry’s “The Heat is On,” he knew it was also… Read more →

Charlie Cox: Perfecting the Daredevil

Charlie Cox: Perfecting the Daredevil

Charlie Cox, looking buff in a dark Henley and sporting his native British accent, charmed the crowd from the time he strode onto the stage for the Friday 10AM panel “Daredevil: The Man in the Mask” in Hyatt Centential II–III. Animated and engaging, Cox displayed a true love of both the artistic and technical aspects of filming a show as… Read more →

“The Donner Question” Day Three: Spock versus Picard

Welcome to today’s almost-all-celebrity edition of “The Donner Question,” known colloquially as “Who would you eat?” Today’s focus is Spock and Picard, but before we get there, let’s revisit Jon Snow versus Tyrion Lannister. To the girl I panned yesterday for not knowing who Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister are, I apologize. Turns out, you are in good company. Sandra… Read more →
