The video was shot in late 2015 with an Atlanta-based cast and crew, and would not have been possible without the contributions of the 501st Legion’s Georgia Garrison.

In 2010, I discovered a cassette telling the story of how my Mother’s Grandmama escaped to the U.S. as a young girl. The tape, translated from Ghesmashkikcili tells of the bravery and wit of my great-grandmother. She had to strike an unusual bargain with dark forces to win her freedom. While the tiny country of Ghesmashkik is completely forgotten today, I knew I had to preserve her story. Using photos from the family archives, This film honors the spirit and irreverence of a woman I never met, but an proud to be descended from.
