The Brave and the Bold

Saving the day in not-so-little ways

Dragon Con Superheroes

The Dragon Con Superheroes is a community service project team for our members, volunteers, and staff to give back to our local community. Since 2014, Dragon Con Superheroes have contributed more than 3,500 hours to Atlanta-area non-profits.

Projects have included packing and sorting food items for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, maintaining trails at Sweetwater Creek State Park, working the Walk to End Lupus Now, building community gardens with the ACFB, supporting the Lymphoma Walk, cleaning and spreading mulch in Piedmont Park, a school supplies drive and backpack packing event with For the Kid in All of Us, a toy drive and bingo event with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, delivering more than 8,500 books to Literacy Action and supporting their Friends and Family day, giving a woman’s shelter a top-to-bottom spring cleaning for Partnership Against Domestic Violence, and hosting a booth for athletes and families with the Special Olympics of Georgia. In all, over 300 Dragon Con fans and their family members have volunteered on the Superheroes projects.

In celebration of our Superheroes’ contributions to the community, we will again host an exclusive celebration during the 2022 convention. Additionally, all Dragon Con Superheroes participating in this year’s projects will receive a free Superheroes t-shirt.

Have questions? We have answers!

Event 1: Supporting Open Hand Atlanta

Join the Dragon Con Superheroes as we partner with this year’s official charity, Open Hand Atlanta. In order to allow as many volunteers as we can possibly send to support and learn about their mission, Open Hand is opening the campus for us on Saturday, April 30th from 10a – 2p. Open Hand helps people prevent or better manage chronic disease through Comprehensive Nutrition Care, which combines home-delivered meals and nutrition education as a means to reinforce the connection between informed food choices and improved quality of life. The Superheroes will work to prepare and package meals, as well as pack market baskets, clean delivery vehicles, and everything in between.

Please note, all ages are welcome, as children will have limited activities to contribute to the day of service.

COVID-19 vaccinations are required for meal packing and masks are required at all times in doors. To review Open Hand’s full safety and health policies, please visit

Join the Dragon Con Superheroes as we partner with an organization new to our Superheroes but near and dear to the hearts of many Atlantans, Atlanta Mission.

Atlanta Mission meets each person where they are, in their unique circumstances, to provide customized services to help them overcome the cause of their homelessness.  Atlanta Mission invests in the spiritual, personal, and professional development of people, restoring and equipping them to intentional living.

In this project, we will have a opportunity to complete beautification projects across their campuses and help sort donations.

This project does have an age restriction of 13+. Anyone between the ages of 13 – 18 needs to have a chaperone join them for the event.  Volunteers must also wear closed toe shoes, pants, and shirts with sleeves (does not have to be long sleeves, just no tank tops).

Event 2: Aurora Anytime Bags

We will partner with Aurora Day Camp to host a morning of volunteering on May 14th at the official Dragon Con office. We will be assembling sanitized Aurora Anytime Bags packed full of fun activities and crafts for children confined to their hospital rooms at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Aurora provides these bags year round for patients in treatments, isolation and in the PICU. Children and families spend endless hours and days at CHOA and these fun, creative activities are loved by patients, parents and the staff at CHOA!

Aurora Day Camp is so excited to provide this memorable and unique hands on volunteer service project for our Superheroes. They will provide all supplies, a short program on their mission and impact and an opportunity to meet one of the camper families.

Launched in 2017, Aurora Day Camp is Georgia’s only free, full-summer day camp for children with cancer and their siblings ages 3 1⁄2 –16. But Aurora is more than just a full-summer day camp, they are a fun-filled community that allows children with cancer and their siblings to just be kids. Aurora provides a creative, safe and supportive program where children with similar and shared experiences are supervised by a dedicated and trained staff who are keenly aware of their unique needs. All of this while allowing children to continue medical treatment and enjoy the comfort and safety of their own homes at night. In addition to the summer camp, they also host a range of year-round and in-hospital programs that support children throughout their journey. There are no other programs like these in Georgia and every dollar they raise stays here in Georgia.
